When you activate an Individual license of ExtendSim, you generate a license file (named extendsim.lic) that automatically gets placed in your Documents > ExtendSim folder. This file describes the license granted to you.
You can open the license file and see its contents, but you should not make any changes to it or ExtendSim will no longer launch. The contents of your license file will look similar to this:
LICENSE extendsim expro24ind 2024 permanent uncounted
hostid=rehost=26f258g037e9323c36a4c8b6342cab6cbf694d4e
issued=1-jan-2026 akey=1234-5678-9098-7654 options=m02/01/2027
disable=TerminalServer _ck=3284946ad4 sig="60P04KD6DFY3GJ1N7KFUQJS51T

Let's break it down line-by-line to learn what each item means:
LICENSE extendsim expro24ind 2024 permanent uncounted
- The LICENSE line defines the usage rights to a product.
- extendsim identifies the name of the product for which license rights are being granted.
- expro24ind is the Product Definition that ExtendSim needs to acknowledge which package you've purchased. In this example, it shows this package is ExtendSim (ex) Pro (pro) release 2024 (2024) and is an Individual (ind) license.
- 2024 identifies the release number.
- ExtendSim 2024 is a perpetual license so is considered a permanent license.
- uncounted ties ExtendSim use to a specific computer (the "node") and allows unlimited copies or instances of ExtendSim to run on that single machine to take advantage of Multicore Analysis.
hostid=rehost=26f258g037e9323c36a4c8b6342cab6cbf694d4e
- This line is used for license locking.
- rehost means you have the ability to delete your license on one device and move it to another device.
- The hostid at the end of the line specifies that the licenses can only be used on the specified host.
issued=1-jan-2026 akey=1234-5678-9098-7654 options=m02/01/2027
- The third line contains optional license parameters.
- The issued date is the date the license is activated.
- akey identifies the Activation Key assigned to your license.
- Options specifies unique settings in your license.
- m/02/01/2027 indicates the date the Maintenance & Support Plan is up for renewal.
- If you have purchased the option to launch more than 4 instances of ExtendSim, options would also contain n8 or n32 whichever you purchased.
- If you also see r1000 or r10000000, it means you have added up to 1000 or unlimited Reliability Event Cycles (RECs) to your ExtendSim Pro license.

- disable=TerminalServer disables the license from being used on Windows Terminal Server, a Virtual Machine (VM), and using Remote Desktop to access your license. If you are using ExtendSim on a VM or need to install your license on a separate device and remote in to that device, this option can be overridden by adding your username to the license file. - _ck= is the license line checksum. A checksum is a small, fixed-size value calculated from a block of digital data, acting like a digital fingerprint.
- sig= is a unique signature line indicating the license has been signed by the license management system.
